INFOKU, BLORA - Sujati, a former lecturer at Yogyakarta State University (UNY) from Sardonoharjo Village, Ngaglik District, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, uses cow urine to make liquid organic fertilizer for various plants in the garden.
Since retiring in January 2023, Sujati (research methodology and statistics lecturer) has concentrated more on agriculture and plantations.
Jati calls everyday, telling that cow urine contains the nutrients needed by plants including 1% Nitrogen, 0.5% Phosphorus, 1.1% Carbon, 92% water and various substances that are useful for plant life.
"After the urine is processed or fermented for 28-31 days the nutrient content increases to 2.7% Nitrogen, 2.4% Phospor and 3.8% Potassium," he explained, Sunday (7/16/2023).
He has also practiced processing cow urine using plastic bins filled with various ingredients including 20 liters of cow urine, 1 kg of brown sugar, 0.5 kg of various types of empon-empon (galangal, turmeric, temu ireng, ginger, kencur) , EM4, 5 liters of water.
"EM4 is a material that helps speed up the process of making organic fertilizer and improves the quality of organic fertilizer results," he explained.
After the manufacturing process for one month, the liquid fertilizer can be used.
He has used liquid fertilizer to fertilize fruit trees including jackfruit, durian, advocate and mango.
The appearance of the plants after being given liquid organic fertilizer looks green leaves, blooms thickly and is healthy.
Because the use of liquid fertilizer from these ingredients besides being able to increase soil fertility can also be used for pest control.
As a note, the use of liquid organic fertilizer is also considered to be less pathogenic than using manure or faeces as organic fertilizer.
Based on these facts it turns out that liquid organic fertilizer derived from cow urine also has the same opportunity to increase soil fertility.
This attracted the attention and appreciation of the former Head of the Blora Agriculture Service, Bambang Sulistya, when he visited Sujati's house.
He stated, it would be great if the movement to use organic fertilizer in Blora Regency was not only limited to processing cow dung or faeces, but could also utilize cow urine which so far has not received special attention as a liquid organic fertilizer.
Considering that Blora Regency is a warehouse for cattle in Central Java. The Blora Regency Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Service (DP4) informed that the cattle population in Blora currently reaches more than 220,718 head of cattle.
"Meanwhile, a cow will produce 8-10 kg of animal manure or feces and 10 liters of cow urine or urine per day.
So the availability of the main ingredients for the manufacture of organic fertilizers is very abundant, "he said.

According to him, the orientation of making organic fertilizers is still focused on processing solid manure, not yet touching on the use of cow urine as liquid organic fertilizer which also has benefits: increasing soil fertility and soil water absorption capacity, increasing soil microbial activity, improving crop quality and providing hormones and vitamins. for plants.
