"Freedom from Corruption..?," To Become a Modern Hero, Simply Abstain from Corruption

(Author Drs Ec Agung Budi Rustanto – Editor-in-Chief of INFOKU tabloid – compiled from 7 different sources)

Every year the Indonesian people routinely commemorate the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia which falls on August 17th.

The date of August 17, 1945 was set as the culmination of Indonesian independence, a national symbol of Indonesia's resistance against the colonialists.

At that time we remember the services of the heroes who were willing to sacrifice their wealth, souls and bodies to fight for the independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

Now the colonial era has passed, the Indonesian nation has become free from the clutches of foreign aggressors.

However, it must be honestly acknowledged that this nation is not yet completely independent.

This is considering the many problems that plague and colonize this nation, ranging from poverty to never-ending acts of corruption.

This nation is still colonized by corruptors who are basically the "biological children" of this nation.

If we interpret heroes as selfless sacrifices, the behavior of corruptors can be said to betray the sacrifices of heroes to achieve the independence of this nation.

Some circles say that today's heroes, at least, do not betray the services of heroes who have sacrificed for the nation, it's simple, just don't be corrupt .

The sacrifices of the Indonesian people cannot be compared to the lives of the heroes.

So the original author, Cah mBlora, concluded that "Corruptors mean they betray. Betray the lives and blood of the heroes."

Corrupt Colonizers of Today

Today, corruptors are the real enemy of the Indonesian nation. Corruptors, nicknamed "rats in ties," continue to undermine this nation.

Corruptors thrive, grow and disappear, and are replaced in various institutions, starting from the centers of state power such as the executive, legislative and judiciary to the sub-district level, even to the neighborhood association level.

Corruptors have existed since this country became independent, starting from the Old Order, the New Order, to the Reformation era until now.

What is even more worrying is that during this reform era, corruptors have become more widespread and ferocious.

Corruptors appear one after another and become increasingly vicious and even increase in number every year.

According to the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), corruption cases increase every year compared to the previous year.

Corruption has damaged the entire system of life and buried religious values and the noble legacy of the nation's founders.

This results in fragile development, economic paralysis, weak law enforcement, blocked education, increasing poverty rates and ultimately has the potential to destroy this nation.

Indeed, corruption is a cruel and dangerous act.

Corruption has destroyed the hopes of millions of children in their own country. Access to education, healthcare, and welfare has been limited due to the violation of their rights by their own people.

The fight against corruption is even more difficult because those being faced are the “biological children” of this nation.

The acts of corruption that occur in this country require the struggle of the nation's children.

A struggle that will never stop as long as life is still in the body.

The current generation of the nation must fight as the heroes of this nation have fought.

Whatever our position in this country, we still play an important role in fighting against corruption in Indonesia.
