The Origins of Bandungrojo, the Site of the Anglingdharma Battle and a Village Founded by a Woman

INFOKU, BLORA –  In Ngawen sub-district, it turns out there is a story about the battle between Prabu Anglingdharma and his enemy, namely the Watumiring hamlet in Bandungrojo Village, Ngawen.

Although the story behind the origin of the name of this hamlet is usually considered a legend, there are still many people who believe that the event really happened.

According to the story that has developed in the community, the origins of Bandungrojo village are said to be 4 hamlets out of 5 hamlets in Bandungrojo Ngawen Village.

The five hamlets are Bandungrojo, Karangrowo, Papringan, Watumiring, and Sanggrahan. The name Bandungrojo comes from the words Bandung and Rojo.

Bandung means Mother, in the past this area was believed to be led by a woman, this kingdom used a matrilineal system.

It is from this custom of passing the throne to women that the name Bandungrojo originates.

Meanwhile, the name of Karangrowo Hamlet was taken from the many swamps in this area in the past.

The abundant availability of water makes Karangrowo Hamlet the area with the fastest rice planting and harvesting period.

Karangrowo comes from the words Karan and Rowo.

The origin of the name Dusun Watumiring is different again.

In this place there used to be a sloping rock, as a result of the fight between King Anglingdharma and his enemies.

Meanwhile, Papringan Hamlet comes from the word pring which means bamboo.
