Preserving Javanese for Communication in the OPD Environment

INFOKU, BLORA -Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Blora Regency Komang Gede Irawadi said that the Blora Regency Government will implement the use of Javanese in the Regional Apparatus Organization (OPD) environment.

This was stated by the Blora Regional Secretary as a step to implement the Circular Letter of the Governor of Central Java Number 430/9525 dated October 7 2014 regarding the use of Javanese every Thursday in the OPD environment.

"This step was taken to preserve the Javanese language. We've tried it before. However, only a few regional government agencies (OPDs) implemented the use of Javanese, while others didn't. We will reformulate the policy. After that, we will issue a circular. The standard is a circular," said Blora Regional Secretary Komang Gede Irawadi on Thursday (July 31, 2025).

Komang said that once the circular is issued, everyone must implement the use of Javanese in the OPD environment.

"So, even in everyday office language, we ask people to get used to using Javanese. I can't actually speak it myself, but I have to learn, I have to understand Javanese. So everyone has to learn," he explained.

Komang said that the implementation of Javanese language could also be implemented in educational environments as an effort to preserve the Javanese language.

"This is a form of preserving the Javanese language, so it is also expected to be practiced at the school level, including elementary, middle, and high school students," he explained.

According to Komang, the Blora Regency Library and Archives Service (DPK) must also play a role in preserving the Javanese language, particularly through improving literacy.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Blora Regency DPK, Mohamad Toha Mustofa, is committed to improving the literacy of the Blora community.

"So, our primary task is literacy. But the meaning of literacy is actually broader, including literacy related to Javanese culture," he explained.

Toha believes that in the midst of very rapid development, it is necessary to preserve existing cultures.

"Those who have this invaluable heritage are worried that if they don't preserve it, their children and grandchildren will no longer recognize it. Therefore, efforts are underway to return to using the Javanese language," he explained.

Toha said that when there is a circular regarding the implementation of the use of Javanese in the OPD environment, it can be a step to preserve the Javanese language.

"We hope everyone will be active again in learning Javanese," he said. (Endah)
