According to word of mouth, the haunted place began with the death of a grandfather who loved his pet dog very much and was buried there.
Suro Tomb is what people call it because it comes from the Javanese word Asu Loro (abbreviated - Suro) which means two dogs.
According to the story, there was once a person who beat two tiger-sized dogs.
At that time, Mbah Pencu, who was the dog's owner, caught the person and forbade him.
The people there believe that the dog is as big as a tiger but is very tame in front of Mbah Pencu.
It is said that with the presence of these two dogs, Turirejo village at that time was very safe and there was no crime whatsoever.
No criminals or thieves dared to come to that village.
Whether it is true or not, after a long time with Mbah Pencu the two dogs died, and not long after that Mbah Pencu died.
At that time, the people buried Mbah Pencu and his two pet dogs close together.
After the presence of the grave of Mbah Pencu and his two dogs, the Suro Cemetery, located 1.5 km from Jepon Market, became haunted.
One of the residents, Karno, said at that time that before there was lighting around the 1990s, no residents dared to pass by the Suro Cemetery at night.
The reason is, many residents experience mystical events because they are often disturbed by heads rolling down the road while grinning. Residents often call it Glundung Pecengis.

Some paranormals say that this phenomenon shows that until now, the two supernatural dogs are still guarding their area, by showing various forms.
Many events beyond reason occurred in that area.
Like the story of Mbah Samini, a tempeh seller who was diverted to a cemetery which he thought was a market.
According to Karno, at that time Mbah Samini had been busy at the market since 03.00 WIB in the morning and always passed through the area near the cemetery.
Mbah Samini, saw the cemetery like a market and then traded there.
When the call to prayer sounded at around 05.00 WIB, he was shocked and realized that the location of his stall was the Suro Cemetery.
" Mbah Samini just realized that she was on her father's grave. Then she rearranged her merchandise and continued selling at Jepon Market," he said.
Mbah Samini's story was also confirmed by pilgrim Arif. Since then, he said, Mbah Samini stopped making tempeh and trading.
Mbah Samini also now lives alone because her children have families.
Arif added that even though the Suro Cemetery has been lit with electric lights, only the tomb guard, Mbah Sadeli, dares to go to the tomb area at night.

Apart from that, only Mbah Sadeli dared to clean Mbah Pencu's grave.
The caretaker of the tomb, Mbah Sadeli, is also the person who always prepares the banca or offerings for every resident who gives alms to the earth.
He always comes to the grave by bicycle and often smokes his own blend of tobacco. (Roes/ IST )
