Impact of FMD Outbreak, Blora Closes Pon Market and Pahing Randublatung Market

INFOKU, BLORA Due to the outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD), two animal markets in Blora Regency, namely Pon Market in Blora District and Pahing Market in Randublatung District, were closed for 14 days.

The outbreak resulted in 360 cattle being infected with FMD, with 25 of them dying.

Head of the Market Division, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises Service (Dindagkop UKM) of Blora Regency, Margo Yuwono, explained that the closure was carried out based on the results of the latest monitoring.

"The last monitoring on January 6 found several cattle that were suspected of being infected with FMD symptoms, so the market as one of the places where the animals gather is feared to be able to spread or be a place for animal transmission in particular, which could later spread in Blora Regency," he said Thursday (9/1/2025).

This closure was carried out after coordinating with the local Food, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Service (DP4).

Although animal markets are closed, buying and selling activities of other goods, such as agricultural equipment and animal feed, are still permitted.

"Traders who want to sell, for example, want to sell agricultural equipment, animal feed, we do not close. Only cattle trading where there is a gathering place for cattle that we close," he explained.

Socialization regarding the market closure has been conveyed to the public through social media and trader associations.

"We also conveyed it to the DP4 as those who gave suggestions related to the closure. We ask them to be able to socialize it because they are related to livestock owners, they know better too," he said.

During the 14-day closure period, routine monitoring will be carried out to ensure that no traders continue to trade cattle in the two markets.
