Heavy equipment has not been able to penetrate the entire river, because the area is narrow and densely populated.
Head of Water Resources Division of the Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (DPUPR) Blora Surat explained that after the flood hit Cepu last Wednesday (19/10), an excavator was deployed to dredge the rivers in the Cepu area.
However, for the time being the dredging is focused on the Tuk Buntung river to the time around Jalan Diponegoro.
"Dredging has been going on for three days starting Friday, the last Monday of dredging," he explained yesterday (23/10).
The letter revealed that the current condition of the river is narrowing and sedimentation, many trees are growing. So that the flow of water in the river becomes narrow and the volume of the water reservoir decreases.
"In addition to sedimentation, many houses have also been standing next to riverbanks," he explained.
The densely populated settlements around the river prevent heavy equipment from entering the area.
So that further dredging will be carried out in coordination with local residents and other stakeholders.
"The plan, which cannot be entered by excavators, will be coordinated with the local community, possibly dredging will be carried out in mutual cooperation with the residents," he explained.
The letter emphasized that the arrangement of waterways in the cepu area would be studied first. So that we get the right solution to overcome flooding during the rainy season with high intensity in Cepu.
