The Great Ruwat of Sedulur Sikep was Held at the Karangpace Hall

INFOKU, BLORA - The Sedulur Sikep Samin community in Karangpace Hamlet, Klopoduwur Village, Banjarejo District, Blora Regency, again held the Ruwat Agung (Ruwat Diri lan Nagari) or Ruwatan Suran tradition on Monday (6/7/2026) evening. 

This annual ritual is a form of gratitude, a means of praying for ancestors, and an opportunity to strengthen ties between family members.

Taking place solemnly in the local pavilion, the main procession was filled with communal prayers and a tumpeng rice feast.

This local wisdom ritual is not only attended by local residents, but also attracts the attention of visitors from outside the region and even academics from national campuses.

Radi, a figure from Sedulur Sikep Samin Karangpace who led and declared the celebration, explained that Ruwat Agung has deep spiritual and social meaning.

"This celebration aims to give alms, pray for ancestors, strengthen ties, and preserve the noble teachings of Sedulur Sikep," said Radi on the sidelines of the event.

According to Radi, dozens of Sedulur Sikep residents from Blora and outside the district came bringing tumpeng and various traditional porridges.

The food is brought as a form of brokohan and a symbol of togetherness before being prayed for and eaten together.

UPI Bandung Students

The excitement of this year's tradition was further enhanced by the presence of a group of students and lecturers from the Indonesian Education University (UPI) Bandung who were carrying out Field Work Lectures (KKL).

Sariyono, son of the late Mbah Lasiyo, accompanied by his mother, Wahini, warmly welcomed the arrival of the academic guests.

"UPI has been coordinating for the past two months to find the right moment. The arrival of our students at the peak of the Ruwat Agung ceremony certainly makes us very happy. We apologize if the welcome was lacking," said Sariyono.

For the Samin community, Ruwat Agung is not just a ceremonial ritual, but a living medium to maintain the values ​​of mutual cooperation and pass on ancestral teachings to the younger generation.

The series of Ruwat Agung rituals concluded with a shadow puppet performance by Ki Dalang Mulyono, depicting the play Dewa Ruci—a philosophical tale about the search for identity and true knowledge. (Setyorini)
