They voiced their rejection of the increase in the price of non-subsidized fuel oil (BBM), which they considered to be an increasing burden on the public.

During the demonstration, the crowd carried posters and banners containing criticism of the fuel price increase policy.

They took turns delivering speeches in front of the DPRD building, while a number of council members met with the masses to receive the aspirations they conveyed.

The coordinator of the HMI Blora Branch action, Joko Agung Purnomo, said the increase in the price of Pertamax from Rp12,300 to Rp16,250 per liter or around 32 percent has the potential to trigger an increase in people's living costs.

According to him, the impact of the increase in fuel prices is not only felt by the transportation sector, but also spreads to various economic sectors.

"The fuel price hike will impact distribution costs, the prices of basic necessities, agricultural production costs, and even the operations of MSMEs. Ultimately, the community will bear the burden," he said in his speech.

He assessed that this condition could further suppress the purchasing power of people who are currently still facing various economic challenges.

Low-income groups, he said, are the most vulnerable to the impact of rising energy prices.

In addition to highlighting the fuel price increase policy, the demonstrators also raised the position of Blora Regency as one of the national oil and natural gas (migas) producing regions.

According to them, Blora's significant contribution to the national energy sector has not been fully matched by increased prosperity for the region's residents. (Endah/ IST )
