One of them is the myth of the Cepu and Blora people who are forbidden from climbing the mountain.

The existence of this myth cannot be separated from Prabu Brawijaya V, the last king of Majapahit.

At one of the peaks of Mount Lawu, Hargo Dalem, it is believed to be the place where Prabu Brawijata V disappeared after converting to Islam.

Prabu Brawijaya V exiled himself to Mount Lawu, which is located on the border of Karanganyar, Central Java, and Magetan, East Java.

It is said that the King of Majapahit went to the mountains to avoid being chased by troops led by the Duke of Cepu.

In the process, Duke Cepu's troops never succeeded in capturing Prabu Brawijaya.

While at the peak of Lawu, Prabu Wijaya swore an oath to the Duke of Cepu: anyone from Cepu, or a direct descendant of the Duke of Cepu, would be in trouble if they climbed Mount Lawu.

Until now, some people still believe in this oath which quickly became a myth.

Apart from the myth that Cepu people are prohibited from climbing Mount Lawu, there are also beliefs regarding the other two peaks of Mount Lawu, Hargo Dumiling and Hargo Dumilah, which are also believed to be sacred.

Hargo Dumilling Peak, for example, is believed to be the place where Ki Sabda Palon, a servant of Prabu Brawijaya V, disappeared.

Meanwhile, Hargo Dumilah is a place of meditation for followers of the Kejawen faith.
