Excessive Use of Chemical Fertilizers Has Low Soil Organic Carbon Levels in Several Agricultural Lands in Blora

INFOKU, BLORA – It turns out that the organic C content of the soil in several agricultural lands of Blora residents is below two percent.

This was revealed from the results of an inspection by the  Blora Food, Agriculture , Livestock and Fisheries Service (DP4)  ,

Blora DP4 Secretary Lilik Setyawan revealed that research conducted by field officers on the condition of agricultural land showed worrying conditions.

This is because  the nutrients  contained in the soil are low, especially the organic C content.

"The organic carbon content is low. Some are even very low," he explained.

Lilik explained that the   low organic C content was due to  the continued use of chemical fertilizers .

Farmers are not aware that this continuous use is degrading soil fertility.

To solve this problem, the district government is encouraging farmers to switch to organic fertilizer.

The solution given to farmers is to create a movement of a million boxes of people (Geseku) to make their own organic fertilizer from livestock manure.

"We have implemented this and collaborated with the Babinsa (village supervisory officers) in each village to make the boxes," he explained.

He said that with the largest cattle population in Central Java, making organic fertilizer is a concrete solution.

Close to the community, just provide training for making the fertilizer.

"Moving livestock manure. This has enormous potential. The largest is in Central Java. Moving livestock manure from pens to rice paddies," he added.
