Police Name Three Suspects in the Illegal Oil Well Explosion Case in Blora, and Here Are Their Roles

INFOKU, BLORA -Blora Police investigators have officially named three people as suspects in connection with the explosion and fire incident at an illegal oil well in Blora.

This illegal oil well fire has killed four people in Dukuh Gendono, Gandu Village, Bogorejo District, Blora Regency.

The three suspects have the initials SPR (46), ST (42), and HRT alias GD (45).

SPR is the land owner who initiated the drilling, SPR (46), while ST is the prospective investor, and HRT is the drilling implementer.

Chronology

Blora Police Chief, AKBP Wawan Andi Susanto, explained that the fatal tragedy occurred on Sunday (17/8/2025) at around 11.30 WIB.

"The incident started when residents heard an explosion from behind the house belonging to SPR.

"Crude oil flowing in the gutter suddenly caught fire and the fire spread to the drilling location," said AKBP Wawan Andi Susanto, during a press conference, Thursday (28/8/2025).

The fire then spread to the house of a local resident, Tamsir, and burned down the back of the house and resulted in the death of one cow.

From the crime scene, the police confiscated a number of pieces of evidence in the form of burnt drilling equipment, water pumps, iron pipes, and crude oil storage tanks.

Material losses due to this incident are estimated to reach IDR 170 million.

"The Blora Police will continue to mitigate, inventory, and regulate oil wells in Blora Regency. This oil control will be coordinated with the Blora Regency Government and related parties," he explained.

Seven Days

The oil well fire in Dukuh Gendono was successfully extinguished on Saturday (23/8/2025) evening, at around 18.35 WIB.

The fire that occurred on Sunday (17/8/2025) afternoon took seven days to be completely extinguished.

The Head of the Blora Regency BPBD Rapid Response Team (TRC), Agung Tri, explained the technical extinguishing methods carried out by the joint team.

The technique used by the joint team is to pull the material in the well.

"The material was pulled to a safer location, then the drill pipe that was still on site was placed in a safe place, then we cut it, then we connected it, then we injected it with salt water," he explained when met at the location of the former oil well that was burned, Sunday (24/8/2025).

In addition to injecting salt water, the team also sprayed foam and water.

"By injecting salt water, then adding foam and water spray, we were able to extinguish the fire. The gas levels were then suppressed by the salt water, and it remains safe to this day," he said.

Number of Victims and Refugees from the Oil Well Fire in Blora This tragic incident resulted in the deaths of four residents and one toddler suffering burns.

The victims who died were Tanek (88) who died at the scene, as well as Wasini (51), Sureni (55), and Yeti (30) who died after receiving intensive care due to serious burns.

A toddler named AD (2) was also a victim and is still undergoing intensive care at Dr. Sardjito General Hospital, Yogyakarta.

Meanwhile, the number of residents affected reached 300 families or 750 people.

They were evacuated to several evacuation posts set up by the local government. (Endah/ IST )
