A classroom at Muhammadiyah Kedungtuban Middle School in Blora collapsed after being hit by heavy rain.

It began when  heavy rain  fell and continued throughout the night on Monday (August 4th). There were no casualties, but losses were estimated at tens of millions of rupiah.

The principal of Muhammadiyah Kedungtuban Middle School, Suparno, told the press that  the room collapsed  at around 21.00 WIB.

"According to local residents, there was a  crashing sound  coming from the direction of  the school . It rained heavily last night. The heavy rain and wind may have caused the building to collapse," he said.

He admitted that his party found out about the incident when he entered school the next day.

"So, we just arrived at school. It turns out the room had collapsed. Luckily, it was a storage room. It used to be  a classroom  and the health center," he explained.

He also explained that the room used to be a classroom.

However, it was converted because the building was old.

"It used to be a classroom. In 2020, it was converted into a health center due to its deplorable condition. It collapsed shortly afterward. Then it was used as a warehouse. And now, it's collapsed again," he explained.

He admitted that he had previously received a budget for classroom rehabilitation from DAK.

"Previously, the department received DAK. It started around 2020. Now it's collapsed again," he added.

Suparno was grateful that the incident did not occur during class hours and there were no fatalities.

However, the loss is estimated at IDR 30 million.

"To build a classroom or room costs around Rp. 30 million," he continued.

"For now, we're evacuating our belongings. In the meantime, we'll see what happens next, and see if we can budget for rehabilitation assistance," he concluded.  (Endah IST )
