The mystery of Arya Penangsang's grave in Blora, Central Java or Ogan Ilir Regency, Sumatra

INFOKU  - The Ogan tribe is a community of people living along the banks of the Ogan River, South Sumatra who use Malay every day.

The Ogan tribe and a number of tribes in South Sumatra are thought to originate from the people who inhabit Mount Dempo, which is in the Basemah plateau. Based on archaeological findings, there were people living around the Basemah plateau, 4,500 years ago (2,500 BC).

The ancestors of the Ogan tribe, from the Basemah plateau, "went down the mountain" then followed the Ogan River, to look for new settlement land. Their existence on the banks of the Ogan River ultimately interacts with the communities that existed before.

Archaeological findings in Goa Harimau show that the civilization around the Ogan River is tens of thousands of years old, and is even thought to have existed since the Ice Age.

The inhabitants of these ancient caves were originally a community of the Australomelanesian race and after the arrival of the Mongoloid race. These two races then merged into one new society, namely the Ogan tribe and several other tribes in South Sumatra.

The Ogan tribe, Komering tribe and several other tribes then united and formed or gave birth to the Srivijaya Kingdom as recorded in history as the largest kingdom of that era which could control most of the archipelago.

The Mystery of Arya Penangsang

During his reign, he moved the center of government of the Demak kingdom to the Jipang area, so that at that time it was known as Demak Jipang.

There is history which records that Arya Penangsang was killed by rebel troops sent by Hadiwijaya, the ruler of Pajang.

The history of Arya Penangsang is contained in several fibers and chronicles which were rewritten in the New Javanese language period (19th century), such as   the Babad Tanah Jawi and Serat Kanda.

The next unique story about Arya Penangsang is that in Ogan Ilir, the tomb of Queen Sahibul or Prince Arya Penangsang was found in that area.

There is an interesting fact in Inderalaya, Ogan Ilir (OI) Regency, South Sumatra Province, namely the discovery of the tomb of Ratu Sahibul or Prince Arya Penangsang in this area.

According to the story of the Ogan and Komering people, Arya Penangsang was not killed in Java, but fled to Sumatra Island, and his grave is now in Inderalaya, Ogan Ilir.

Arya Penangsang or Arya Jipang or Adipati Jipang who ruled in the mid-15th century.

According to Serat Kanda, Arya Penangsang's father was Surowiyoto or Raden Kikin or often referred to as Pangeran Sekar, son of Raden Patah, the first king of Demak.

Arya Penangsang is thought to have migrated from the Duchy of Jipang around 1549 AD, stopped in the Kingdom of Banten, then headed to Skala Brak (Lampung) and continued his journey and settled in Tanjung Kemala Village (Abung in Lampung).

From Lampung, he and his followers arrived in Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) and lived for a long time in Surabaya Nikan Village and created a village known as Gunung Batu Village. There are many children of Arya Penangsang descent in this area.

Arya Penangsang's journey then continued to Inderalaya (now Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province) and it was in this area that Arya Penangsang died in 1611 AD.

In the Ogan Ilir area, the name Arya Penangsang is better known as Sariman Raden Kuning. Around his grave, there is also the grave of his daughter, Siti Rukiah, who died when she was a teenager due to illness.

Until now, his grave is still maintained and looked after by the people there.

Arya Penangsang Tomb

This is different from the story from other sources which says that Arya Penangsang died in Java in the war for the Demak Kingdom. His death was caused by a battle carried out in the context of his assassination competition.

On their way back to Pajang,   Duke Pajang Hadiwijaya's group stopped at Mount Danaraja where Queen Kalinyamat was meditating.

Queen Kalinyamat urged Hadiwijaya to immediately kill Arya Penangsang. He, who is the heir to Sunan Prawoto's throne, promised to hand over Demak and Jepara if Hadiwijaya wins.

Hadiwijaya was reluctant to fight Arya Penangsang directly because he felt he was only the son-in-law of the Demak family. So a contest was announced, whoever could kill Arya Penangsang, would receive a prize in the form of the land of Pati and Mataram.

Hadiwijaya's two adopted brothers, namely Ki Ageng Pemanahan and Ki Panjawi, registered for the competition. Likewise, Ki Ageng Pemanahan's biological son, Sutawijaya, also registered for the competition.

Therefore, Hadiwijaya mobilized the Pajang troops and gave the Kyai Plered Spear, to help   Ki Ageng Pemanahan and his biological son, namely Sutawijaya, to defeat the 5th Sutan of Demak, Arya Penangsang.

The Rimang Crow horse passionately chased Sutawijaya who was riding a mare, jumping over the river. The war between the Pajang and Jipang troops occurred near Bengawan Sore (Bengawan Solo).

In that war, Arya Penangsang's stomach was torn open by Kyai Plered's spear, which belonged to Sutawijaya. However, Arya Penangsang's supernatural powers made him survive. He wrapped his exposed intestines around the hilt of the keris tucked at his waist.

Arya Penangsang succeeded in arresting Sutawijaya. When he pulled out Satan Kober's dagger to kill Sutawijaya, Arya Penangsang's intestines were cut, causing his death.

After he died, it is said that his body was buried close to the Bengawan Solo stream, in Jipang village, Cepu District, Blora Regency, Central Java. The burial complex is called Gedong Ageng Jipang.

So, where is Arya Penangsang's grave actually? Is it in Ogan Ilir or in Blora? Is the Arya Penangsang in Sumatra the same as the one in Java? (Agun / IST / IST )
