Construction of the Karangnongko Motion Dam begins in Bojonegoro, Blora Areas Waiting for Land Acquisition

INFOKU, BLORA -The Regent of Blora, H. Arief Rohman, expressed his gratitude to the central government for the construction of the Karangnongko Motion Dam, which is located in the Bojonegoro, East Java and Blora, Central Java areas.

This was stated when attending an inspection event for the location of the Karangnongko moving weir in Ngelo Village, Margomulyo District, Bojonegoro Regency, East Java, Thursday (19/10/2023), by the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono together with the Minister of State Secretary (Minister of State Secretary) RI Pratikno.

At the event which was also attended by the Acting Regent of Bojonegoro, Adriyanto together with Forkopimda and a number of village heads in each region, Regent Arief stated that in the future the Karangnongko Dam is expected to prevent drought in the South Blora region.

Apart from other functions, such as agricultural irrigation, meeting clean water needs, and tourism.

It is said that apart from the gate from Bojonegoro, a dam gate will also be built from the Blora Regency side.

"Development will start from the Bojonegoro area first because on the East side of Bengawan Solo there are not many settlements, the majority are forests and empty land, the land is ready.

"Meanwhile, the Blora area, on the west side of Bengawan Solo, is waiting for certainty about the relocation of residential areas, which we will seek to consult with the Ministry," explained the Regent.

Capacity 59 million M3

When inspecting the location, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that the construction of the Karangnongko Motion Dam had been planned for a long time. 

"This (Karangnongko moving dam - ed) has been planned for a long time. You can see that now the surrounding area is very dry and there is no other way to get water. One way is to build this moving weir," he said.

According to Minister Basuki, Karangnongko Dam is a long storage that utilizes moving weir technology on the Bengawan Solo River with a length of 24 kilometers, so that it can later hold water with a capacity of 59 million M3.

"We first build it in a dry area on the Bengawan Solo River, so it doesn't touch the community. When it's finished, we build a cofferdam to channel the water, then we build the dam."

The construction of the Karangnongko Motion Dam is contained in the Regulation of the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Number 21 of 2022, namely the Second Amendment to the Regulation of the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Number 7 of 2021 concerning Changes to the List of National Strategic Projects (PSN).

Technically, this dam has a pool area of ​​1,027 hectares to irrigate an irrigation area of ​​6,950 hectares in Blora, Bojonegoro and surrounding districts.

The Karangnongko Dam irrigation water supply will be distributed through the Karangnongko Kiri Irrigation Area (DI) covering an area of ​​1,746 hectares and DI Karangnongko Kanan (Bojonegoro Regency) covering an area of ​​5,203 hectares.

"This is an exception, permission was issued directly from the President to build Karangnongko. Meanwhile for the others there is no (new construction). We are all doing it with good intentions. I think we really support the community's proposal to be able to build this moving dam. Goods- "There are definitely problems, especially social problems. But we have built 61 dams and thank God everything is going smoothly. I am sure that the construction of the Karangnongko Dam will also run smoothly until it is completed," said Minister Basuki.

Agricultural & Economic Impact

Meanwhile, State Secretary Pratikno said that the construction of the Karangnongko Motion Dam is expected to contribute to the economy in Blora and Bojonegoro through the agricultural sector. Around the dam, the plan is to develop the agribusiness sector in a productive and sustainable manner involving the local community.

"The essence of prosperity is water and connectivity. So our concept is, there is water, there is connectivity, and there is industry that uses farmers' products. So that is what we hope will increase prosperity here," said Pratikno.

It is known that the accelerated construction of the Karangnongko Moving Dam was carried out to increase the amount of water storage in order to support food and water security programs, especially in Central Java and East Java Provinces.

The water supply from this dam can increase Indonesia's food security. Meanwhile, the water discharge on the left is 2.85 m3/second and on the right is 7.90 m3/second.

It is hoped that the Karangnongko Dam irrigation water supply will also be able to reach the Solo Valley Werken area (62,000 hectares). 

Apart from that, the existence of the Karangnongko Dam will also oversee three other moving weirs which include the Bojonegoro Motion Dam, the Babat Motion Weir and the Sembayat Motion Weir. (Roes/KOM)
