Oro-Oro Kesongo Red Zone Area, Residents Are Prohibited from Entering


INFOKU, BLORA – After the eruption, the area is still not safe, the ban on entering the Oro-Oro Kesongo mud volcano  tourism site   has begun to be intensified.

The police put up banners prohibiting entry to the area, or in other words the red zone area.

Moreover, the eruption of Oro-Oro Kesongo last Tuesday (11/4) resulted in one fatality.

Kapolsek Jati Iptu Subardi said the prohibition signs that were installed were a form of the police's efforts to secure the surrounding community.

Previously, they had put up warning signs. However, it was removed by irresponsible parties.

Subardi reminded that the Oro-Oro Kesongo eruption had resulted in the death of victims. It is suspected that the victim inhaled toxic gas from the eruption. One other victim is still being treated in hospital.

"We are no longer giving an appeal, but we are forbidding residents to come close to the Oro-Oro Kesongo area. For the safety of all of us,'' he told yesterday.

Subardi stressed that no residents or visitors should approach the Oro-Oro Kesongo area. Because, it is feared there will be an explosion that releases mud mixed with toxic gas.

"Because the eruption in the crater does not know when. We convey to the public, thank you for your understanding and please stay away from this location,'' he appealed.

The Oro-Oro Kesongo eruption occurred Tuesday (11/4) in the afternoon to Wednesday (12/4) in the morning. The eruption spewed mud as high as 30 meters and emitted gas.

The South Kendeng Region ESDM Office branch indicated that the gas was hydrogen sulfide or H2S. This type of gas is dangerous if inhaled. (Endah IST )
