Allegedly There Are Still Unlicensed Drugs Circulating


INFOKU, BLORA — Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo asked all hospitals and health services to monitor kidney failure in children caused by syrup drugs.

In addition, regional health offices are advised to immediately send patient data if there are already cases in the area.

Indeed, at this time victims of acute kidney failure in children because  syrup drugs  in the area have not been found.

However, the awareness of the consumption of drugs containing ethylene glycol (EG) and other harmful substances needs to be increased to the public. In addition, the Health Office is advised to monitor the circulation of illegal drugs.

This was revealed by Ganjar Pranowo during a working visit to Blora Regency.

"The data must be sent to us quickly so that we can take good care of it and reduce potentials," he explained.

According to him, it is urgent to handle and prevent it, especially socialization to parents who have children.

Because, some drugs have been entered into the record not to be used. Currently, there are only five reports of cases of kidney failure in children in Central Java.

Chairman of the Indonesian Pharmacists Association (IAI) Blora Nurul Huda explained, although in the area there have not been found children suffering from kidney failure, parents certainly need to receive information on syrup drugs that are prohibited by BPOM.

Because, it is suspected that there are drugs without a permit circulating in the community.

"Drugs that do not get permission from BPOM cannot be circulated," he explained.

According to him, one of them is buying drugs at several outlets that are official and recommended, such as pharmacies.

It is safer, because it is according to doctor's prescription recommendations and has been medically tested not dangerous if consumed.

"Because there are already many consumers or patients who use syrup, when a circular from the Ministry of Health, it can't be easy to convey," he explained.

Previously, the Secretary of the Health Service Blora Willys admitted that it had not been found that children had acute kidney problems due to the consumption of syrup drugs.
