INFOKU, BLORA -A total of 10 community health centers (Puskesmas) in Blora Regency are now able to serve the treatment of residents suffering from HIV (human immunodeficiency virus).
The 10 health centers are Japah, Tunjungan, Ngawen, Doplang, Menden, Jiken and Sambong health centers.
"In the 10 health centers there are already treatment service officers including counseling for people with HIV," said Head of the Blora Health Service, Edi Widayat, S.Pd., M.Kes., MH through the Head of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Sutik, yesterday.
For those who tested positive for HIV, Sutik asked them to do routine treatment by taking antiretroviral (ARV) drugs.
Medicines that are given free of charge can be obtained at the health center or at the hospital.
Sutik explained that HIV that is not treated immediately will develop into a serious condition called AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome).

AIDS is the final stage of HIV infection. At this stage, the body's ability to fight infection is completely lost.
“With this ARV treatment, if a person with HIV is pregnant, it is very likely that they will not transmit the disease to their unborn baby. In addition, the body's resistance will increase,''said Sutik representing the Head of Disease Prevention and Control of the Blora Health Office, Joko Budi Heri Santoso.

Sutik further explained that the Blora Health Service together with the puskesmas have been active in carrying out early detection of HIV sufferers.
One of them is by holding mobile voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) activities.
As previously reported, 17 people with HIV were found from this activity,'' said Sutik.
He added that the number had decreased compared to last year's findings which reached 27 people. (Endah/ IST )
