Two stages of the vaccine that arrived in Jakarta are Pfizer vaccines and the rest are Moderna vaccines.
According to the Director General of Information and Public Communication (IKP) of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics, Usman Kansong, in the 173rd stage, the Pfizer vaccine that arrived in Indonesia amounted to 879,840 doses and the 174th stage, totaling 592,020 doses.
The second stage of the arrival of the vaccine is the direct purchase of the vaccine.
"The 173rd Pfizer vaccine will be distributed directly to the Lampung Health Office, Central Kalimantan Health Office, North Kalimantan Health Office, South Kalimantan Health Office, NTB Health Office and NTT Health Office. Meanwhile, Usman continued, the arrival of the 174th vaccine will be distributed to the North Maluku Health Office, South Sulawesi Health Office, West Sulawesi Health Office, Southeast Sulawesi Health Office, Central Sulawesi Health Office, Maluku Health Office, North Sulawesi Health Office and South Sumatra Health Office.
"The estimated arrival date is Monday (27/12) and Tuesday (28/12)," he said.
As for the arrival of the 175th stage, continued Usman, the Moderna vaccine that arrived was a donation from the Italian government through COVAX with a total of 922,800 doses.
WHO Target Exceeded
Previously, on Thursday 30 September 2021, Indonesia also received donations from the Italian government through COVAX in the form of 796,800 doses of AstraZeneca and on Monday 20 December 2021 as many as 482,000 AstraZeneca vaccines.
"For the support and donations from the Italian government, we express our highest appreciation and gratitude," he said.
According to him, the government continues to increase the stock of vaccines to meet the needs for the national vaccination program.
Usman said that currently, Indonesia had exceeded the WHO target for the number of people who had been vaccinated.
More than 109 million Indonesians have received the complete dose, more than 40% as targeted by WHO by the end of this year.
Even so, he ensured, the vaccination program would continue to be accelerated and expanded until all targets were successfully vaccinated. For this reason, the continuous arrival of a phased vaccine is urgently needed.
"The government invites all Indonesians who have not been vaccinated to be vaccinated immediately to protect themselves and their families," he said.
Omicron
Regarding the Omicron variant that has entered Indonesia, Usman emphasized that the government continues to optimize emergency response efforts to prevent transmission of the Omicron variant, starting from tightening quarantines from abroad to continuing to echo the appeal for people to postpone their overseas trips.
According to him, various policies in response to the entry of the Omicron variant were prepared by considering and involving input from various experts and officers in the field.
As a form of anticipation of the spread, he continued, the government has increased whole genome sequencing as well as tightened the quarantine period for travel from abroad.
The government will also increase surveillance and close contact. Although so far the omicron variant has not shown a life-threatening character, especially for patients who have received the vaccine.
Usman reminded that President Jokowi still urges the public to immediately complete the vaccination for those who have not.
The government will also accelerate vaccination, especially in the elderly group, to minimize the risk of severity if contracting COVID-19.
Usman also asked the public to respond to the entry of the Omicron variant by remaining calm, increasing vigilance, and obeying health protocols.
Efforts and cooperation between all parties are needed to prevent local spread of the Omicron variant.
