INFOKU, BLORA – The increase in plastic prices on the market has actually brought blessings to bamboo and besek weavers in Blora Regency.
Demand for traditional besek (woven baskets) for distributing sacrificial meat has increased sharply.
The surge in orders has even left a number of craftsmen overwhelmed by consumer demand.
One of them was felt by Dian Agus Yulianto, owner of the Berkah Anyaman Bambu business in Kedungsatrian Village, Ngawen District.

He admitted that orders began a month before Eid al-Adha. Many consumers chose to order early for fear of missing out on a basket.
"Consumers have even been ordering for a month because they are worried about missing out or not having time to make their orders," he explained.
The high demand means that Dian, his wife and dozens of local residents have to work extra hard at their production house.
"There are around 35 workers involved in the involvement of local residents," he said.
According to him, the raw material in the form of apus bamboo is very easy to obtain in his village and surrounding villages.
The abundant availability of raw materials means that production can continue even though orders have increased drastically.
Not only does it meet local needs, the bamboo baskets produced by Berkah Anyaman Bambu are also regularly sent to Jakarta for the distribution of sacrificial meat.
Besides besek, his production house also makes various other crafts such as hampers, parcel holders, lamp decorations, and even food covers.
He admitted that the bamboo baskets are quite affordable, depending on the size.
"Small sizes are Rp. 3 thousand per piece, large sizes are Rp. 5 thousand per piece," explained Dian.
Da hopes that the high price of plastic can be a momentum for people to start switching to using environmentally friendly containers.
According to him, using bamboo baskets or teak leaf wrapping is far better for preserving the environment, especially when distributing sacrificial meat. (Endah/ IST )
