Hey, the historic building of the former Randublatung District Building was demolished to make way for the MBG Kitchen.

INFOKU, BLORA –It is very unfortunate that the former Kawedanan in Randublatung District was razed to the ground after being demolished to make way for the construction of a Free Nutritional Meals (MBG) kitchen.

It is known that the building is a cultural heritage that has high historical value.

Local youth were also disappointed with this move.

This disappointment was expressed to the press by Aji, a Randublatung resident who is currently studying for a master's degree in history at UGM.

According to him, the former Kawedanan Randublatung building is very  historic  and has many stories.

Among them, as contained in the archives of the delpher.nl page , De Locomotief  26 November 1935, at that location the Wedana Randublatung held a social gathering to raise funds for  Algemeene Steunfonds Voor Inheemsche Behoeftigen  (Asib).

Namely, an agency founded by  the Dutch  to provide assistance to the poor native people who suffer from hunger.

During the event, a puppet show was held which attracted huge interest from the public.

The Kawedanan building was packed to the point where visitors sat closely together. The gross revenue was very satisfactory, around 80 guilders.

Of which around 50 guilders is the net income to be donated to the Asib cash fund.

Aji added, in other historical records, in 1904 the Randublatung Kawedanan Building was restored, which indicates that in that year the building was old and still an important part of the government at that time.

" It cost 7,700 guilders. Or now worth between Rp 2 and 11 billion," he said.

The restoration at that time included adding the main building, side building blocks, rear kitchen, rear pavilion, and horse stables.

Based on various historical records, the former Kawedanan Randublatung building is very valuable.

Moreover, it is made from Randublatung teak wood, which has long been known as the best teak wood in the world.

" Randu teak (Randublatung, ed.) is world-renowned. It's the finest and most expensive. So, I don't agree with tearing it down for MBG," he said.

Aji wondered why efforts weren't made to build the MBG and KDMP kitchens on other land without destroying historic buildings, such as in the village's kelurahan or other land.

" So, there is no need to sacrifice the former Kawedanan Randublatung Building, which is very meaningful," he added.

The government need not worry about the function and usefulness of the building if it remains standing, as it can be used for arts and cultural activities.

" I heard   there was a painting exhibition  in Blora recently. Well , it would be great if it were held in a historic building. For example, a painting exhibition in the former Randublatung Regency building. Or a showcase of local crafts," he concluded.  (Endah/ IST )
