5-Day-Old Baby Dies of Burns, Allegedly Negligent at R. Soetijono Blora Regional Hospital

INFOKU, BLORA –A truly unfortunate fate befell a family in  Ngawen District . 

How could it not be,  the baby  boy  who was just born normally on August 31 by a mother with the initials S  died  on September 5.

There are allegations of negligence in treatment at  R. Soetijono Blora Regional Hospital  .

According to journalists' observations, the baby's body had  burns  from  the stomach  to  the waist .

Head of Nursing Services Section (Kasi) of R. Soetijono Blora Regional Hospital, Nanang Anacardia, in a statement to the press said that his party acknowledged that there was this problem.

He explained  the chronology  of the incident.

"Initially, the patient or baby was born on August 31 in the afternoon. Then, after being checked, the baby's condition was declared less favorable. Furthermore, he was taken to a  Pediatrician  for therapy. However, his condition was still  critical  and he was transferred to the  NICU  ( Neonatal  Intensive Care Unit) and PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit)," he said, Thursday (12/9).

Furthermore, he claimed that the process of moving to the critical room and placing in the incubator had been approved by the family.

"Because the baby had difficulty in the respiratory tract. Then, we used a breathing aid," he explained.

Then, on September 2-3, the baby's condition worsened. Then, it was consulted again to  a Pediatrician  .

"After that,  a ventilator was installed . The condition worsened, could not be infused. Finally, the baby was declared  dead  on September 5 morning,'' he said.

Meanwhile, when asked about  the burns  on the baby's body, the Director of R. Soetijono Blora Regional Hospital, Puji Basuki, has not yet confirmed the cause, because it still needs  investigation .

Nurse Prosecuted

"So, we still can't be sure. The audit team is still investigating. We can't report the results yet," he explained.

He also said that the nurse suspected of negligence had been transferred.

"It was moved yesterday to the Health Department. For evaluation and to facilitate our investigation," he said.

In addition, he admitted that his party had provided accommodation in the form of condolences to the bereaved family.

"Not compensation. Just a token of condolence. Because we share in the condolences," he said.
