Piles of 103 Thousand Tons of Garbage Become a Livelihood for Collectors

INFOKU, BLORA  – As of December, 2 final disposal sites (TPA) have accommodated 103,416 tons of waste.

This number is more than last year. The large amount of waste piles is a livelihood for collectors at the TPA.

Just like what Sunardi did when he sorted out bottle, plastic and paper waste. He had only been doing this activity for one year. After the waste is sorted, Sunardi sells it to someone at a not so high price.

"For a one-kilogram bottle, it's only Rp. 300. For plastic, it's Rp. 1,000. Thankfully, we can get income from here," he said when met at TPA Nglebok, Cepu District, Thursday (15/12).

The resident from Kedungtuban admitted that apart from himself there were 20 other people also collecting garbage at the TPA. Every time a truck arrives at the location, they are immediately greeted with the help of a scraper. The pungent smell is not a problem for the garbage collectors.
