INFOKU, SEMARANG -The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has currently set three priority railway projects in the government's 2022 work plan.
In addition to the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train project, the Jakarta-Semarang high-speed rail project is also a priority.
"In 2022, the national priority target is to strengthen infrastructure to support economic development and basic services through the Java Island high-speed rail major project," said Director General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation Zulfikri in a joint hearing with Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives, yesterday.
The Jakarta-Semarang high-speed rail project is part of the Jakarta-Surabaya high-speed rail mega project. The government will cooperate with Japan in
According to Zulfikri, the Jakarta-Surabaya high-speed rail project is unlikely to be completed within 5 years. Therefore, in the medium term, the project is expected to be completed in Semarang.

"It's only part of Jakarta-Surabaya. Because it's estimated that this five years to Semarang will be included in the major project in the 2020-2024 RPJMN. Now, this is Jakarta-Surabaya 700 km away, so we'll be staging for five years. We can only wake up until Cirebon," said Zulfikri when met at the DPR Building, Jakarta, Wednesday (5/2/2020).
In this project, his party will add one railway line on the Jakarta to Surabaya route which currently already exists. The rails to be installed must of course meet the standards to be traversed by fast trains that have a speed of up to 160 km/hour.

"So the 90 km/hour will be increased to 160 km/hour. There is already a double track from Jakarta to Surabaya. Now, the rails can't be at least 120 km per hour. That's why the concept was made of a new track with new specifications. So add one track, it can make 160 km / h," said Zulfikri.
Even though using an existing track, it requires a large investment for this project. Zulfikri did not mention the amount of investment required for the Jakarta-Semarang high-speed rail project.
However, the costs for the Jakarta-Surabaya project are predicted to reach Rp 70 trillion. This figure comes from the feasibility study alias Feasibility Study (FS) which is being carried out.
"In the past, the pre-FS cost was Rp. 70 trillion. The question of loan or what will be decided after the FS is finished," he concluded.(Anik/ IST )
