INFOKU, BLORA –As many as 3 houses in Dukuh Wadung RT 05/ RW 05, Kedungtuban Village/District, were destroyed by fire yesterday morning (8/6).
The incident, which occurred at around 02.00 WIB, is thought to have been triggered by negligence when cooking rice using a gas stove.
The fire first started in Satiran's house. Satiran's wife, Asmuah, was reportedly asleep while cooking rice in the kitchen at the time of the fire.
The flames then grew and spread to the two houses next to it.
Blora Police Public Relations Officer AKP Midiyono explained that the fire was first discovered by residents at around 01.50 WIB.
One of the witnesses, Aziz Nurwidyatama, heard a sound like burning wood coming from the kitchen of the victim's house.
"According to the victim's wife, she was cooking rice on a gas stove and then fell asleep. The fire grew and spread to the rest of the house," Midiyono explained.
As a result of the incident, Satiran's house, which was used as a residence, a pecel stall, and a motorbike repair shop, and Yuliana's house, which was empty, were also completely destroyed by fire.
Meanwhile, Sudirman's house sustained damage to the kitchen and bedroom walls due to the flames. Total material losses are estimated at Rp 275 million.
Upon receiving a report of the incident, a joint team of officers from the Kedungtuban Police, Military District Command (Koramil), Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), and the Cepu and Randublatung Fire Department teams immediately arrived at the scene. Four fire trucks were deployed to extinguish the blaze.
"The fire was successfully extinguished at around 04.00 WIB," he said.
Luckily there were no fatalities in the incident.
However, the Satiran family temporarily had to take refuge in their neighbor's house, Ngatemi.
Currently the police are still investigating the exact cause of the fire.
Kedungtuban Police Chief Iptu Hadi Setyo Pramono appealed to the public to be more careful when using cooking equipment, especially at night.
"Don't leave the stove on. Make sure the flame is completely extinguished and the LPG cylinder is tightly closed before resting," he advised. (Endah/ IST )
