Ngawen Police Chief, AKP Lilik Eko Sukaryono, said the fire occurred at around 23.30 WIB.

Starting from Suwadi's house, it spread to a row of  emergency market stalls  on the west side of Jalan Raya Ngawen-Japah, Ngawen Subdistrict.

"The victim saw sparks starting to spread to the wooden roof," he said.

Knowing this, Suwadi immediately told his son and tried to put out the fire with whatever equipment he had.

However, the flames grew bigger, then Suwadi asked for help from residents.

"A witness passing by the location heard the screams and saw the fire growing from one of the market stalls," he said.

Residents then contacted the Ngawen fire department.

It took about an hour to extinguish the fire that had spread to the sides of Suwadi's house.

"Because  the fire department  was  already on standby , the response was very swift. The fire was extinguished in just about an hour," he explained.

Based on the results of the preliminary crime scene investigation, the fire is suspected to have been triggered by an electrical short  circuit  .

However, due to incorrect handling, the fire grew bigger.

"The preliminary suspicion is an electrical short circuit. A resident noticed a burning cable and tried to douse the flames, but instead of extinguishing the fire, it only grew larger," he explained.

There were no fatalities in the incident. However, several vendors suffered material losses as their homes, kiosks, and merchandise were destroyed by the fire.

"One house and nine kiosks were burned. Losses are estimated at around Rp2.2 billion," he continued.
