Sunan Pojok's Hermitage, No Grass Growing

INFOKU -The hermitage of Sunan Pojok is located in Pojok Hamlet, Buluroto Village, Banjarejo District, Blora.

The place believed to be the place where Sunan Pojok meditated is a mound of earth.

Uniquely, the mound which is considered sacred by local residents has been free of grass since long ago.

Even though the grass grows abundantly around it.

The tomb of Sunan Pojok itself is located in the center of Blora Regency, precisely next to the town square.

Every year the community holds a haul at this location.

During the haul, the history of Sunan Pojok is always read by local community leaders.

One of those who read it was the Chairperson of the Blora Nahdlatul Ulama (PCNU) Branch Management.

According to history, Sunan Pojok was a war commander appointed by Sultan Agung Hanyokrokusumo.

The envoy of the Sultan of Mataram was given a special mission, namely to secure the areas of Pati, Tuban, Surabaya and Pasuruan from rebellion.

Prince Sedah (Surobahu) invited the dukes in the coastal areas to unite to expel the VOC.

Securing the area from the influence of kraman (rebellion) and inviting unity, organizing the dukes in the northern coastal area to jointly face the Dutch VOC in Batavia, Jakarta.

After returning from Batavia, Prince Surobahu returned home via Blora, which at that time was surrounded by wilderness.

On the way to a place which was later named Dukuh Pojok, he fell ill and died there.

At that time, the Duchy of Blora was led by Duke Raden Mas Joyodipo, son of Prince Surobahu.

Raden Mas Joyodipo moved the tomb of Prince Sedah (Surobahu) which was previously in Pojok Hamlet to Gedong Tomb (current Sunan Pojok Tomb) (Roes/ IST )
