It turns out that Blora has minimal representation of women in the DPRD

INFOKU, BLORA   Interestingly, from the last two elections, women's involvement in Blora's political arena is still low.

Of the 45 total members of the Blora DPRD there are only four female members. The rest are men.

The 2014 elections produced 8 women DPRD members. That number decreased in the 2019 elections to 6 people.

However, now there are only 4 of them left. Because, there are those who surrender and die. That number is certainly not ideal.

This became the focus of the women activists in Blora. This is because the involvement of women is considered important to encourage policies that are inclusive of women.

Head of the Kopri Branch of the Indonesian Islamic Student Movement (PMII) Blora Idda Ainun Aulia regretted the lack of representation of women in the Blora DPRD seats.

In fact, women's representation in the legislature is important for policies that are gender responsive and more inclusive.

“If you look at Blora, there are very few fans. As women, they must also be more  prepared  in dealing with political issues and of course understand their knowledge. We invite and embrace women to better prepare them to be brave in politics as well," he said.

According to him, the minimum electability of women in Blora DPRD seats is due to the shackles of the people's culture. Women still doubt their ability to lead.

“Yes, it has returned again and again. Until now, society still has a shadow of patriarchal culture. It is considered that they can only do domestic work," he explained.

Secretary of Kohati Badko Central Java-DIY Lianasari Septieani Rahayu said women's representation in the political field was needed to fight for problems that often befall women. Women's participation in DPRD ranks needs to be increased so that women's problems can be minimized.

"Through political institutions, women can devote most of their energy, time and thoughts in the process of making laws with their structural capacity to shape or influence public policies," said the woman who was born in Blora.

The problems faced are the rampant cases of domestic violence, the minimum wages for female workers, the right to leave for female workers during menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding.

Then the maternal mortality rate and key issues related to women must be voiced by fellow women.

"Be it through policies in the realm of parliament or lower levels with demonstration methods," he concluded. (Endah / ST )
